"Frank Frazetta, one of the most renowned fantasy illustrators of the 20th
century whose stunning and energetic images influenced a generation, died this afternoon at a hospital near his home in Boca Grande, Florida. He was 82.

The cause of death was a stroke.

Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.

I know I'll miss Mr. Frazetta though I never met him personally to my regret. He is definately one of the reasons I picked up a book or magazine that featured one of his covers. May he continue to create beautiful masterpieces in that great studio in the sky.

It is bad enough that we lost Frank Frazetta today, but I have been watching the major news feeds all day. Not a single mention of Frank's passing. Barbara Walters having heart surgery, people upset with that movie critic, but not one mention of Frank's passing. Did I miss something?

The greatest fantasy artist of the 20th century dies and his passing doesn't even get a mention in the national press? What is wrong with this picture?

Mr. Frazetta I never had the pleasure of meeting you, but I admired your work for decades. I know that you are with your beloved wife. And if you have a moment after Saint Peter hands you your new paints and canvas please say hello to Mr. Freas for all of us.

God rest you Frank and my deepest condolences to the entire Frazetta family.

He lived to 82. I don't know about you but I'm not expecting as good an innings;

He made a living doing what he (persumably) loved;

He had enough pride and belief in his work to demand top dollar Razz

and lived to see himself thoroughly vindicated; and

He will continue to be discussed/admired/debated by fans worldwide for some time to come; and

Whatever disputes his kids are embroiled in he was (I assume) able to leave them and/or other loved ones a decent ineritance of considerable artistic and commercial value.

Sounds like a life lived pretty well.

Actually, news of Frank's passing did at least make most of the major newspaper outlets. AP picked up the story and it ran pretty much all over - the headline even made the front page of the online Washington Post, and they wrote a nice piece for the Arts section of the NYT.

Now, of course, it did not make CNN, MSNBC, etc., but heck - what would you want them to do, bump the story on Justin Beiber's haircut?

We know that Frank's work will stand the test of time . . . . let's just hope it can stand the test of offspring . . . . Frazetta Kids, you are now the custodians of a priceless artistic legacy - don't screw it up . . . .
